He was Crushed

We all went astray like sheep, we have all turned to our own way; and the Lord will punish Him for the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers, He did not open his mouth. He was taken away because of oppression and judgement; and who considered His fate? For He was cut off from the land of the living; He was struck because of my people's rebellion.
They made His grave with the wicked and a rich man at His death, although He had done no violence and had no spoken deceitfully.
Yet the Lord was pleased to crush Him severely. When You make Him a restitution offering, He will see His seed, He will prolong His days, and by His hand, the Lord's pleasure will be accomplished. He will see out His anguish, and He will be satisfied with His knowledge. My righteous Servant will justify many, and He will carry their iniquities. Therefore, I will give Him the many as a portion, and He will receive the mighty as spoil, because He submitted Himself to death, and was counted among the rebels; yet He bore the sin of many and interceded for the rebels. Isaiah 53:6-12

In a day of many cries of 'injustice,' I read this and think, "this is gross injustice!" How could God do this to His Son? Why did it 'please Him' to crush Him? What sort of perverse pleasure is this?

Sin came into our world through a man, and a sacrifice was necessary, yet not one that would last for a day, a moment, but one that would last for a lifetime, for all eternity. Where could such a sacrifice be found? All earth did not hold such a sacrifice,  none perfect enough, pure and sinless enough.

Why can't God just accept man as He is and not demand such a sacrifice? Inside the heart of every man is a desire for the immortal, a relationship with something He can worship. Without the sacrifice sinful man cannot enter in close enough and relate to the immortal God.

Jesus was the only One who could come and repair the breech between God and man, He was the only sinless man. He chose to come, He must have thought we were worth it, He knew what the cost would be, to be crushed for a bunch of people who did not like Him or know Him. What motivated such an action? Love! What sort of love gives so much? It is definitely not one we know much about, we would not do it.

What do I do with such a gift? Accept it freely and humbly, inviting Him in. Allow His love to touch your hardened heart and allow Him to love you. Watch Him transform you!
