Who Am I?

While He was praying in private and His disciples were with Him, He asked them, "Who do the crowd say that I am?" They answered, "John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, that one of the ancient prophets has come back." "But you," He asked them, "who do you say that I am?"
Peter answered, "God's Messiah!" But He strictly warned and instructed them to tell this to no one saying, "The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and scribes, be killed and raised on the third day." Luke 9:18-22

To be the only ones to recognise Jesus as Messiah set the apostles apart, this would make them feel special. Yet they too did not understand that the Messiah must suffer and be rejected. The Messiah was believed to be someone who would rule with authority. Jesus alone knew the path He must take. Just as Satan had tried to tempt Him with rulership over the whole world, Jesus' disciples would want Him to be their kind of Messiah.

Jesus told the disciples not to tell anyone about their revelation because He knew what people would want to do and it would start a war and rob Him of His destiny. Jesus came to die for our sins and take back the keys of death and hell. His kingdom was a spiritual kingdom, one not of this world. They failed to grasp this.

When we fail to grasp the truth about a matter we endeavour to force our own ideas, in so doing we miss the perfect plan. God's ways are higher than ours and so much more fulfilling. Amen!
