Law or Liberty
Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues n the Sabbath and there was a woman who had had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years, she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity." And He laid His hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and she praised God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because He had healed on the Sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days on which work ought to be done, come on those days and be healed and not on the Sabbath day. Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day? Luke 13:10-16
Jesus successfully shamed the leaders and gave hope to the bound. Sticking by the letter of the law may have tickled their religious appetites but put all you sought help in bondage. They themselves were in bondage to the letter of the law, there were cages everywhere and not only that evil spirits took the opportunity to possess the people with infirmities.
Where freedom is replaced by a veneer of righteousness through keeping the law, evil prospers. Yet where truth and righteousness flourish bondage is broken and those who are bound are set free. In areas of witchcraft people are held in bondage to its evil law but when Chrsit comes the evil power is broken and people are set free.
What will I bring into my world today: law or liberty? Do I endeavour to be right with God through religious ritual or do I walk in His truth and set others free? We must face this choice today. Amen!
