The New is Coming
I wrote the first narrative, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach until the day He was taken up, after He had given orders through the Holy Spirit to the apostles He had chosen. After He had suffered, He also presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God.
While He was together with them, He commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father's promise. "This," He said, "is what you heard from Me; for John baptised you with water, but you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit not many days from now."
So when they had come together, they asked Him, "Lord, are You restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?"
He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:1-8
"But Jesus, what about the kingdom, are you going to be King now?" They are still harping on about what they want and Jesus is trying to introduce His way, the way of the Holy Spirit, the preaching of the gospel, the salvation of souls.
Sound familiar? "But I want a bike, I don't want a doll!" Little children are locked on what they want and they go over and over what they want. As little children we do the same. Learning to yield our will, just as Jesus shows us is the challenge. Laying down our life to live His life, well now, there's the rub!
Smith Wigglesworth said that Jesus had to break and break and break his will, so that he would do His will. This is what must happen in us. We long for a happy life and constantly work to that end, but, eventually, we have to learn to walk in the power of the Spirit, through the fire, on the water, climbing over obstacles placed before us. We are in a war. We have always been in a war. We have times of respite and refreshing but then we go back to the battle, to win souls, to take ground, rise in victory over all our enemies, who are mostly within.
I sense the wind of the Spirit. Jesus is introducing a beautiful, new, experience, His disciples will learn to walk, in the Spirit. To date they have been rather fleshy believers, now they were going to more into 'men and women of God.' How exciting! There is always 'more' with God! Amen!
