Going to the Ends of the Earth
Then setting sail for Troas, we ran a straight course to Samothrace, the next day to Neapolis, and from there to Philippi, a Roman colony, which is a leading city of that district of Macedonia. We stayed in that city for a number of days. On the Sabbath day we went outside the city gate by the river, where we thought there was a place of prayer. We sat down and spoke to the women gathered there. A woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who worshipped God was listening. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was spoken by Paul. After she and her household were baptised, she urged us, "If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house." And she persuaded us. Acts 16:11-15
The Lord had the team travel for miles across land and then sea to get to Philippi, firstly to save Lydia and her household and then evangelise. I wonder what was happening in Lydia's heart leading up to this moment, what was the focus of her prayers? How good of God to do this. Philippi was in Macedonia, the place Paul had a dream about wanting him to come.
Each of us are given opportunities, daily to do something that may impact on the life of another. Last night I was pondering the subject of love and our expectation of it, when up came a TED talk about the very subject. The one giving the talk did not speak about agape love, but rather approached it from a human perspective. There were many comments but I was compelled to comment about the fact that we all long for love, the agape kind, the kind given by God who is not fickle, who loves us in out worst. This morning I awake to see a comment by a young women in a Muslim head gear saying thank you for my comment, it blessed her.
I love technology, it spreads across many miles and connects people who will never meet in the natural. I am so grateful for the opportunity. We all have such opportunities, why not use them?
