Apollos
A Jew named Apollos, a native Alexandrian, an eloquent man who was powerful in the use of the Scriptures, arrived in Ephesus. This man had been instructed in the way of the aloud; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught the things about Jesus accurately, although he knew only John's baptism. He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. After Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him home and explained the way of God to him more accurately. When he wanted to cross over to Achaia, the brothers wrote to the disciples urging them to welcome him. After he arrived, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace. For he vigorously refuted the Jews in public, demonstrating through he Scriptures that ages us is thenMessiah. Acts 18:24-28
Apollos was from Egypt, this shows us that the gospel had spread to Egypt, even though it did not have the full picture. Aquila and Priscilla did Apollos and Christianity a favour by taking Apollos home and filling him in on the more of the gospel. Once filled to the brim with the whole truth he was unstoppable.
Apollos then moves on the Corinth and strengthens the believers there. He was similar to Paul in the strength he portrayed in his faith. Some early church fathers though that the book to the Hebrews was written by Apollos but there is nothing else attributed to him. He was more a speaker and orator.
Even though Apollos was strong and eloquent he still needed the full truth. The Holy Spirit falls upon truth and anoints it for a good work. The Corinthian church became involved in schisms and were filled with infighting around who they followed: some followed Paul, some followed Apollos, some Cephas (Peter) while others Jesus Christ. Paul's letters to the Corinthians sorted them out. There is only a one Lord! Amen! Apollos did not appear to be caught up in the factions, in fact it is thought he left the area because of it but later returned when things became sorted by Paul.
Schisms are not good!
