Faith versus Law

For the promise to Abraham or to His descendants that he would inherit the world was not through the law, but through the righteousness that comes by faith. If those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made empty and the promise is cancelled. For the law produces wrath. And where there is no law there is no transgression. This is why the promise is by faith, so that it may be according to grace, to guarantee it to all the descendants-not only to those who are of the law but to those who are of Abraham's faith. He is the father of us all in God's sight. As it is written: 'I have made you the father of many nations. He believed in God, who gives life to the dead and calls things into existence that do not exist. Romans 4:13-17

The law is necessary because it shows us where we sin. In society law provided structure and barriers, yet if I depend on it alone to be righteous then I depend on my own effort. I know in myself there is envy and malice at times, I therefore fail the law at the base level. For I can uphold the law if I love my God and fellow man but in my own strength I will fail. I need to depend on One who did not fail, a saviour who can give me His success because I have attached my faith and hope in Him. I can ride on His success by faith.

As I look at my life I fail in many ways but as I place my attachment to His success and not my own, I win, I succeed. Amen!

God is good, God is good, God is good, He is faithful! (Song) amen!
