Sexual Uncleanness and Church
I wrote to you in a letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. I did not mean the immoral people of this world or the greedy or the swindlers or idolaters; otherwise you would have to leave the world. But now I am writing you to not associate with anyone who claims to be a believer who is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or verbally abusive, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such a person. For what business is I of mine to judge outsiders? Don't you judge those who are inside? Put away the evil person from among yourselves. 1Cor 5:9-13
The church cannot compromise itself when it comes to what it is supposed to be: holy, set apart, pure, walking in righteousness. In the name of do-goodism and so called love we allow immorality and fail to address it and teach our people God's way.
We are called to love the world and the sinners outside the church and not judge but inside our love must be honest and tough when needed. If no one confronts me about my attitude, I struggle. If I am allowed to walk in uncleanness because no one will confront me I am lost. If I see disease in my hand, I confront it and if necessary remove it from what is infecting it and take it to the doctor. We are the body of Christ and need to lovingly confront, remember the loving, it is God's kind of loving, not the mushy stuff that also will get offended and judge when crossed.
Sexual immorality has many forms and we must be aware of it's nature. We must be aware that a little leaven leavens the whole lump. If we do not confront, the sin infects others and before we know it we are a bunch of people comfortable in our sin and powerless in the gospel.
Paul put the perpetrators out of the church, tough, very tough but it brought repentance. There's the challenge.
