Wrong Communion
Now in giving the following instruction I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse. For to begin with, I hear that when you come together as a church there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. There must, indeed be factions among you, so that those who approved are recognised among you.
Therefore, when you come together, it is not really to eat the Lord's Supper. For at the meal, each one eats his own supper ahead of others. So one person is hungry while another gets drunk! Don't you have house to eat and drink in? Or do you look down on the church of God and embarrass those who have nothing? Should I praise you? I do not praise you for this! 1Cor 11:17-22
Do you have problems in your church? After reading this I would hazard to guess you would be grateful. I can understand why we have small pieces of bread and small cups of juice so that these excesses no longer occur.
The above scripture is spoken to the carnal, bestial Christian. There is no recognition of the Body of Christ or in fact how the Lord would have them behave.
When we gather to have communion we are encouraged to inspect our hearts so that we have a heart that is one with the body of believers present. Yet, even Jesus had one present in His supper who was intent on having Him arrested. Offence was in Judas' heart.
All we do must be with the mind of Christ. How does our behaviour affect our brothers and sisters in Christ? Oh Lord have mercy! Give us a mind to fellowship in spirit and in truth. Amen!
