Faithing It!
Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen. For our ancestors won God’s approval by it.
Hebrews 11:1-2 HCSB
The writer of Hebrews then goes on to list off the saints of old and what they did to be included in the list. The very first man to die, Abel, came first. Abel died because his brother was jealous of God's favour on Him when Abel's sacrifice pleased God more than Cabin's. The next man, Enoch, did not experience death, God took him away. Enoch was taken because he pleased God. Pleasing God comes as we use our faith.
Next comes Noah who took 100 years to build a huge boat. He would have been laughed out of town, it had not rained amd there were no oceans or large rivers nearby. Because Noah faithfully obeyed God he became an heir of righteousness.
Next came Abraham who went on a long journey because God called he out from his home to a land He, God, would show him. Abraham went so that he could receive an inheritance. Sarah, Abraham's wife, is next because she believed God for a child.
All of these died before seeing the ultimate promise. Sarah received her child but Abraham did not see the multitude he was promised.
We, those who come after, a long while after, are called to faith. Faith for each of us starts with believing that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life; that the word of God is true and final on all subjects; that eternity is our goal and that it is real. Then, after the foundation, each of us is called to walk in faith before our God. What is He calling you to do? My vision grows daily. I want to do great things in Nepal. I want to be instrumental in healing the economy. Now, like the saints of old, I may not see the finished product but, hey! I will enjoy the process. Amen!
The word used for faith is 'pistus.' Does not sound an exciting word does it? but it is loaded with promise. It carries a spectrum of meanings in the NT. It can refer to something completely trustworthy. Christ's resurrection is proof.(trustworthy evidence). Pistus can also mean a solemn promise; it sometimes means the state of being faithful or trustworthy. God's faithfulness ensures He will fulfill His promises. Pistus may express belief with complete trust. Faith is often expressed as complete reliance on the Lord power over nature, illness and spiritual powers.
So, step out and trust the Lord in whatever endeavour He calls you to. Amen!
