Power-For What?
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 HCSB
Just before the above verse, the disciples were asking the Lord:
So when they had come together, they asked Him, “Lord, are You restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time? ” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by His own authority.
Acts 1:6-7
The disciples had their own track, before the crucifixion and again after. It is as if they are saying: "Ok Lord we get that you wanted to save us from our sins, thanks, but how about the power to rule over our enemies?"
In the Old Testament God says: “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not My ways.” This is the Lord ’s declaration. “For as heaven is higher than earth, so My ways are higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8-9
Do we get it? Or do we still persist on our thinking? Would it not be best to seek His thinking? What was this power God wants to give us? What are we to be witnesses to?
What is God's plan? To seek and save the lost. What is our plan? To get out of here without being maligned and as safe as possible? Wrong! Safe does not testify or witness to God's saving grace. Safe stays under cover and avoids the bullets. If we were receiving power from the Holy Spirit, would we need it to stay safe or to be witnesses?
Today, let us go to our God, in fellowship with other believers and see what God would do with a heart that is wholly His. Amen!
