The Way
“Lord,” Thomas said, “we don’t know where You’re going. How can we know the way? ” Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
John 14:5-6 HCSB
Jesus had been telling His disciples He was going away but that they would know the way. Thomas is very simple in His understanding, or lack there of. It sounded like he needed exact detail to understand.
Fortunately Jesus told him, He was the way. Now, I wonder if he was more confused? How can a person be a path or road? Jesus had told them many times that He was: the door; the good shepherd; the vine and much more. Unless Thomas had a revelation he would not get the idea that Jesus was the Way.
Do we understand what Jesus was saying? What is The Way? Sounds like it is the only path to a destination. For many places on earth there are various ways to approach your destination but there are a few that have only one path.
Having trekked in Nepal I know that in some parts the track you are on is on the side of a cliff and the only route between two destinations.
When Jesus says He is the Way, He means He is the only way. Man today believes he can go his own way and that God should accept his decision. How arrogant!
If Jesus is the only Way, then we better get to know Him. Amen!
