Who Do I Pretend to Be?
“The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, God , search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.”
Jeremiah 17:9-10 MSG
Not as they pretend to be. Mm! Yes the heart is deceitful above all else! We are kinder to ourselves, judging intent rather than behaviour whilst others are judged on behaviour. Not equal balances. Jesus knew this and encouraged his disciples to have just scales.
We cannot allow ourselves off with intention. Often we hear: "But God knows my heart" referring to intention. God does indeed know our hearts and what caused the bad behaviour was a corrupt heart, a self-righteous heart.
When children pretend to be someone other than who they are we say: they are playing make believe. Yes they are having a fantasy and it is in that fantasy they are the hero or the princess.
At Kids Club we dress up and pretend to be super heroes. In the children's minds they are heroes. Yet they have not done anything heroic but rather pretended to do so. In Christ we are more than conquerors. So living out of that place is better than fantasy. He is our strength.
Acting like a child of God would be more apt as we have the power to do this. Why not give it a try? Amen!
