Be gracious to me, God, according to Your faithful love; according to Your abundant compassion, blot out my rebellion. Wash away my guilt and cleanse me from my sin.
Psalms 51:1-2 HCSB
This psalm is a Psalm of David written after the prophet Nathan confronted him with his sin in taking Bathsheba from her husband Uriah and having him killed because he tried to hide his sin, as she was pregnant. We read the full story in 2 Samuel 11 and 12.
Nathan convicted David of His sin by telling him a parable about a rich man and a poor man. The rich man had a visitor and instead of killing one of his sheep to feed his visitor he took the only sheep of the poor man and killed it. David was furious on behalf of the poor man. Nathan then told Him He was the perpetrator. David was smitten amd the above Psalm comes out of his repentance.
In our eyes David's sin was great and worthy of prison. The result of his sin was the death of the child he and Bathsheba conceived. David was heartbroken, yet he accepted God's judgement.
God's lamb was slain for our sin. His only Son was given to redeem us. Imagine that we take the knife and kill him. This is what our sin did to Him. Yet the perfect sacrifice could not end in death, He rose again to give us the freedom His death purchased for us, eternal life. Amen!
Jesus washed our sins away, once and forever. We can come to Him in repentance and be made clean. There is no more need for sacrifice, just repentance and acceptance of forgiveness. Yes!
Prayer: Jesus thank You for Your sacrifice, forgive me and cleanse me. Amen!
