Great Expectations

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, 1 Peter 1:3 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/1pe.1.3.NLT

Great Expectations is the title of a book by Charles Dickens in 1861 and was about a young boy named Pip. Many of us could write our own version: I am going to uni to study to become a doctor, a vet, an accountant etc

In the young mind, there will be a glorious outcome. The young, generally, do not envision all the pain they may encounter along the way.

I knew I was leaving the countryside and moving to a city to study nursing. In my mind, I planned to travel to Canada as a nurse. I did not make it, I was married instead. I later travelled to Canada as a tourist, best of all visiting the Toronto Airport Church, the centre of a past revival. I then went on to Pensacola, another centre of revival.

Disappointment can follow our expectations for natural advancement however great expectations await us all in eternity, in Christ. I long to see my heavenly home and to meet up with all the saints who cheer me on.

My passage is already booked and paid for and my accommodation forever is secure. The downpayment was the blood of Christ. He purchased it all for me so that I could spend eternity with Him. I  Imagine eternity will be quite eventful, I will not be sitting on clouds strumming a harp. On the contrary, I suspect God has a great adventure for me there.

Will I see you there?
