the wait

The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 HCSB

We do not understand patience as the Lord does. He waited thousands of years before He sent Jesus, and now thousands again before He sends Him again. We become annoyed if a car we have ordered is late, if our plane is late, or our meal is late.

Imagine waiting a year, two or three for a car we wanted? Imagine waiting three hours for a meal? We can't do it, can we? The Lord yields the immediate for the long term. He is a big-picture God. We would look at all the people in the now and say, these people need the answer now! Why wait? However, He does! The wait is when we develop character, trust and long suffering.

I have waited almost 20 years for the new in my own life. The new must be awfully good and well worth the wait. I see it in the Spirit, I long for it,  but am happy with the wait as I trust God to perfect in me all He wants there. Amen!
