I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalms 119:11 NLT
Yesterday I found myself influenced by the attitude of another person rather than what the word says to do. I was ashamed and repented. However, I am now on my guard. How can I guard my heart? Staying in the word of God. Choosing it as my reference point and not defending bad attitudes of another is important.
The Psalmist knew well that we will be challenged with attitudes towards others. I am currently reading the Old Testament in relation to King David having to flee Jerusalem because his son Absalom was usurping the throne. On his way David was cursed and mocked by a previous supporter of King Saul. David's servants wanted to deal with the man but David said: " who knows if God has not caused this man to mock me, leave him alone". That is integrity of heart. David wrote many Psalms about the Lord and His word. However, this one was not one of his but possibly the sons of Korah who served in the temple as singers and musicians.
There is a reason why God told His people to keep His word, and to know His word, so that they might not sin against Him. We need to keep the word, and allow it to be our governor, not the behaviour of others, or our own circumstances. Amen!
