“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT
Acts of love start at home and forgiveness would be too of the pile. To forgive we must walk in grace, the same grace that God extends towards us. His grace forgives because of Christ ‘s sacrifice. We forgive because we have been forgiven much.
Allowing grace to work in us causes us to walk in mercy, thoughtfulness and generosity. We might be particularly good at walking in generosity but be unwilling to give forgiveness. Paul pulls this attitude down in 1Cor 13 : if I give al I have to the poor but have not love I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. Love, God’s gracious love, forgives all things, believes all things.
Tomorrow my church begins a period of prayer and fasting. We are seeking God’s guidance for the year ahead and the infilling of His Spirit. Fasting can cause us to be a little fractious. Now, more than ever we need His grace. Amen
