“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” Romans 12:10 NLT
Is it a struggle to love and honour difficulty people? I wonder what life was like in Sarah and Abraham’s tent? They spent their lives trying to produce children and failing. Then along comes God when they are already in their latter years promising a son. This would have been frustrating. Would they ever have gotten depressed? Would they have resorted to ways and means not ordained by God? Scripture tells us they did. However, scripture in the New and Old Testament honours them for what they got right, and does not demean they for their failures. Why is that?
God seems to honour the right and gentlycorrect-the wrong. God never seemed to tell Abraham, ‘lying is not good or having sex with your slave is not good.’ Yet He calls him a man of faith. Abraham finally believed that God would provide a son, and God did . It took over 20 years before Abraham got it right. God was not bothered that Abraham was near 100 when He gave him his son.
Perhaps God is not bothered by age as we are. Perhaps God is not bothered by failure as we are. He is interested in our faith, faith in fulfilling the task He, God, set before us, not ones we assume we must fulfill.
