Be still

“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”Psalms‬ ‭46‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I remember holding my children and telling them to stop wriggling, and to be still. Their problem was wanting to do something, my problem was, I knew, they needed to sit still.

Today, being Sunday, is a good day to sit still. However, if we only leave stillness till Sunday, then we are prone to wriggle when God offers stillness. Why stillness? Stillness allows time to reflect on the goodness of God, but also on the futility of business. Stillness is down time from mobile phones.

Yesterday, while at RFS training we had a morning tea break. I made a comment about one guy who didn’t have his face in his phone , I was impressed. I then started a conversation about fire and being caught in it. Well, the stories flowed. It was great to see the phones put down and conversation take over.

Habits are formed by doing the same thing over and over, repeatedly daily. Phone addiction starts like this.
I heard Pastor Steve Furtick say, “you come to church to have me give you a 45 minute layer that goes over 17 hours of phone usage a week”. He was making the point that the enemy has captured us through our phones. Phones and the things we read and watch train us how to think in worldly ways. We cannot expect even 1 hour of God a week will sustain us. We need to reverse the pattern. Amen!
