Desire

“For it is God who is working in you, enabling you both to desire and to work out His good purpose.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭13‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Desiring to be a servant and to work for God’s pleasure is definitely required otherwise we would live for self 100% of the time. In verse 12 Paul tells us to work out our salvation in fear and trembling. What does he mean? Does he know something we don’t?

Paul cites Jesus in the following verses. Perhaps this is an indication:

“He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death — even to death on a cross. For this reason God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above every name,”Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭

Eternal life is ours in Christ. However, Jesus taught in parables about Kings going away and returning expecting a yield from the work their servants were given. What we do, therefore, may be very important to Jesus. Paul taught a lot about right living and right attitudes. We have the tools we need to live not just survive.
