The poor

“You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”John‬ ‭12‬:‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We can do easily run off with our own understanding. The Old Testament taught caring for the poor, Jesus knew caring for the poor and obviously practised it. However, this was not one of those times. Mary had done an extravagant thing by pouring expensive perfume all over Jesus’ feet and then wiped them with her hair. You could say she had gone overboard in her expression of love to Jesus. She knew Him as saviour and Lord. He had raised her brother from the dead. She had sat at Hus feet hearing the ways of the kingdom of God from Him. She had discovered the way to eternal life. Why would she not be grateful? Judas had run off in his one track way, accumulation of finances .

Jesus was telling Judas, some things are more important than money and what money can do. Adoration of the saviour took precedence. Perhaps at this time of the year when we consider Easter, this is also an important factor. Easter is not a time to think about us and our needs but to worship the One who saved us. It is a time to honour Him and give Him all our adoration. It is not a time for glutttinous eating and indulgence, it is a time for reflection and respect. Amen!
