Chosen

“But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. “Once you had no identity as a people; now you are God’s people. Once you received no mercy; now you have received God’s mercy.””1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Why is the ‘but’ there? Perhaps because the previous verses speaks about unbelievers:
“Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.””1 Peter‬ ‭2‬:‭7‬ ‭

Lack of faith towards God carries  consequences. However, faith towards God yields benefits. Once we had no eternal identity, now we do. Now we are called priests and kings.

When we see the pomp and regalia associated with being a king, the opulence and glory, we understand there would be benefits indeed. Having watched the royals in England we discover the intense scrutiny they bear. Criticism is not far from their doors.  Is it any wonder we also are scrutinised and criticised by the media? They expect us to behave as royals of the king.

Live wisely! You are a watched royal! Amen!
