“Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. Who is the King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty; the Lord, invincible in battle. Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. Who is the King of glory? The Lord of Heaven’s Armies— he is the King of glory. Interlude”Psalms 24:7-10 NLT
David wrote this psalm. It is supposed that the psalm was written when David brought the Ark of the Lord to the city of David. David had already been made aware of God’s holiness when he attempted to bring the Ark on a cart, a man died. Searching the scriptures showed him that it must be brought up on the shoulders of the priests. The scriptures reinstated the holines of God and how to handle that holiness.
This psalm shows an awareness of God’s holiness. The whole psalm is saturated with respect and honour for the presence of God.
Our world needs a dose of respect, especially the church and God’s people. God is not there to make our lives better and provide for our needs only. ‘Give us this day our daily bread’ is one small verse in the Lord’s Prayer. The prayer begins with: ‘our Father who are in Heaven Holy be Your name, May your kingdom come, Your will be done’.
Holy be Your name! Holy is who God is first and foremost. Holy is who we need to see Him as. In Holiness we come to Him and enter His presence.
What is holiness to us? We need to discover it. Amen!
