“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.”Acts of the Apostles 20:24 NLT
Paul said this when he was saying goodbye to the people from Ephesus. He knew he was facing imprisonment when he reached Jerusalem. Yet, fulfilling the work given to him by the Lord drove him.
This selflessness was imparted to him by the passion for serving Jesus. A singleness of focus was something the Lord Jesus had. Scripture says he set His face like flint : “Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will. And I know that I will not be put to shame.”Isaiah 50:7 NLT
How can we have nothing else but a passion for doing the work set for us? We cannot refuse the task! We face our Lord in eternity and will need to give an answer for our time here on earth. We are not here for a complacent easy life, but rather a life in which we take up our cross and follow Him. Amen!
