“And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.””
Matthew 1:21 NLT
Joseph needed convincing that what Mary had told him was real. Finding out his bethrothed was no longer a virgin, she could not be, she was pregnant threw him. Mary’s faith was tested and proven true.
When we say “yes!” To the Lord others will not always agree or believe. Last night I had two surprises: the first was my ex-husband, his wife, brother and sister-in-law came to the Carol Service my son had prepared and executed. It was very good. My ex-husband had not seen me for several years and did not recognise me. The second surprise was I had been invited to share Christmas dinner with my son, and his family at an Afrikaans home after the Carol Service. I met people I found delightful, their food beautifully spicy, it reminded me of Nepal.
Speaking about Nepal had people’s minds goggling. Some did not know where it was. Some people do not know where Bethlehem is. Some as still yet to hear the good news about Jesus’s birth and purpose for coming. This is so in Nepal.
The Lord has a divine plan for us all to follow, not everyone will agree or see it. Joseph did not automatically accept what Mary told him about being the mother of God, who would have? Yet God was faithful and sent a message to Joseph. He, in turn, received the word and became the earthly father to Jesus. He must have done the job well as Jesus had a loving picture of His Abba Father.
Joseph is hardly mentioned in scripture yet he had the greatest role. We will not all be seen and heard or written about, but God still uses us for His purposes.
Happy Christmas!
