Not forsaken

“For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.”Hebrews‬ ‭6‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

At times we can feel forsaken because of what we suffer. This scripture reminds us our God remembers and will reward us.

I am now reading about those brave souls who were the first missionaries to inland China. They went to places far remote from all they knew. Many were women, however Hudson Taylor forged the way. Hudson was scoffed at and heavily criticise for the way he dressed as the Chinese. He was lambasted for sending single women into the frontiers, churches refused to support him in his initial endeavours. He had gone as a non-ordained minister and had failed to complete his medical degree. In their eyes he was a failure, but in God’s eyes ‘what a brave soul’.

Hudson’s wife was the bravest and a most stoic woman. She was constantly pregnant and lost several children and eventually died herself. When women were not recognised in Britain as ministers she was a forerunner. Whilst her husband was away ministering she held the home together and the fledgling mission together, being content with the barest of necessities.

We need to read about the saints of old so as to be encouraged. The stories of those who have gone before remind us that our suffering is part of the cross we carry for the sake of the name of Jesus. We can be grateful for those who have gone before! Amen!
