Then he said, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”Mark 4:9 NLT
We truely hear when we understand the speaker and what he is saying. If we hold our tongue and are not quick in reply we may actually hear and understand.
When listening to a sermon it is good to lean in and give our full attention. This way we hear and go on to understand.
Many times the people heard a Jesus but did not understand. Scripture tells us that the disciples had this problem after Jesus had performed the miracle of feeding the 5,000. Jesus then sent them on ahead in the boat whilst he prayed. They were being swamped by wild waves when He came walking on the water. Scripture tells us that they did not understand the feeding of the multitude and their hearts were hardened.
What they failed to understand was that Jesus blessed the food and gave it to them to hand out. The miracle came to pass as they performed their duty. If they had understood the magnificence of this they could have taken authority over the storm themselves.
How like this are we? When we fail to grasp the significance of what we hear?
Open your ears to hear! Amen!
