Confession

“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” 1 John‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Confession is good for the soul! Confession of matters that are true, reliable and powerful releases the Holy Spirit to work in our lives. Confession of sin cleanses our hearts, provided a true change of heart is intended. Here the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, but willingly forgives us and empowers us to change and move away from our sin.

A step of faith is necessary. Empowerment comes as we trust in the promised power to overcome the sin. For example in sexual sin, desiring to change is not enough we must step away and claim the promised power to resist the sin, saying we cannot help ourselves is a lie, we can step into the grace God provides. Resistance to sin is also important. Scripture tells us, ‘resist the devil and he will flee!’ Jesus resisted temptation with scripture, Satan cannot stand the truth of the word of God. Amen!
