‘Leave her alone’

“Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”John‬ ‭12‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Mary had just poured an expensive perfume on Jesus’ feet and wiped it with her hair. Judas had complained that it should have been sold and money given to the poor. He said this not because he cared for the poor but was a thief.

Now if a woman did this to a prominent church leader today she would be considered simple or weird. Jesus did not see her as so but rather a loving disciple who cared deeply. He defended her. May we care as she did. Her deed will always be remembered. Will lot love be so noted?

As we approach Easter let us reflect and consider what Jesus actual did for us and worship with gratitude. Amen!
