“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”
Luke 6:36 NIV
This scripture comes after a passage talking about loving your enemies as well as those who love you. Jesus encourages us to love our enemies as well as those who are easy to love. Who are your enemies? Your critics, those who block you and lock you out. They could be those who persecute you, those who are attacking you. How to respond in love?
Paul exhorts us to understand our enemies are spiritual forces of wickedness in high places, the people they use are mere pawns, slaves to darkness and in need of deliverance:
“For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:12 NLT
These enemies we fight in prayer, with scripture and worship.
Lifting up the name of Jesus above all, inviting His kingdom to come raises the power of God over all that can stand against us. Amen!
