“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”
Proverbs 9:10 NASB2020
Notice the above verse does not say: ‘the fear of the Lord is wisdom’, but rather ‘the beginning of wisdom’. As a child I had a fear of my father’s wrath. However, this did not stop me from being foolish and ending up facing his wrath, especially when it came to squabbles with siblings.
Wisdom is learned if we have an ear to hear, otherwise resentment results. I know one lesson I learned from my dad was to not steal. As a young teenager I went on an excursion from the country to Sydney with my school classmates. On our last night we were taken to a restaurant. I’m not sure if it was a dare, however, I stole a wine glass. My dad was furious and told me never to steal. That lesson stayed with me.
Our Heavenly Father is training us in righteousness, that means right living, according to His Holy Standards. His goal is to create in us brothers and sisters for His Son Jesus. He is holy and we must be holy. No short cuts! Amen!
