“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”Ephesians 6:17 NIV
The sword is the word of God, not the word of man, nor the whisperings of our enemy. The accuser uses others and plain old whispering into our mind. Thoughts come with regular succession. ‘Hath God said’ is constant. Constant are the lies and murmurings. He accuses others to us, when they have not done or said a thing.
The reason we have a helmet that represents our salvation, the blood of Christ, is because this is a target area. Why else would we be targeted there? Through our thought-gate comes the lies that would tear us away from our saviour. Paul exhorts us to stand in the truth of the gospel.
We need to know our sword. It is the living word of God not the dull piece of metal it represents. It is alive, sharper than any two edged sword, able to pierce bone and marrow, getting to the heart of a matter and convicting of truth. It is living and active. We need to know it well. It is our friend. Amen!
