The blind and the lame came to Him in the temple complex, and He healed them. When the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonders that He did and the children shouting in the temple complex, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" they were indignant and said to Him, "Do you hear what these children are saying?" "Yes" Jesus told them, "Have you never read: "You have prepared praise from the mouths of children and nursing infants?" Then He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and spent the night there. Matthew 21:14-16
Go Jesus! He was bringing the very thing they wanted and they were too proud to receive.
Our Lord comes to us in ways that He chooses, we are not in charge. Fortunately there are those who recognise the truth, our little people, the children.
The longer we are established in a thing the more set we are in our ways. In church this can be the same. 'This is how we do things around here', we think, in fact we enjoy things being comfortable.
Things were comfortable for the scribes and pharisees but not the lowly, the sick, the maimed. The Pharisees had started to prevent the lame from coming into the temple, yet Jesus welcomed them and healed them.
I am sure children were not permitted to run around shouting in the temple, why it just was not done. Yes the moneychangers and sellers were allowed to encroach but not the lame and the children.
Our Lord is constantly changing, things are moving with Him. One of the reasons is He knows that when we settle into routine we forget the relationship, that precious friendship with Him is overtaken by route.
When we settle into routine we don't see the harvest, we see the pews, the inside of the church and become distasteful blocks of wood to the lost, we lose our salt, we become hard and dry.
My prayer is that I remain tasty, attractive to the lost. Amen!
