Jesus said to them, "Tonight all of you will run away becasue of Me, for it is written:
'I will strike the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.'
Peter told Him, "Even if everyone runs away because of You, I will never run away."
"I assure you", Jesus said to him, "tonight, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times!"
"Even if I have to die with You, " Peter told Him, "I will never deny You!" And they all said the same thing. Matthew 26:31-35
Ever had a rude awakening? ever been so sure of your heart and actions that you would stand up for yourself against a prediction about your future actions?
What casues such a huge discrepancy? Do we view ourselves emotionally? or logically?
The bible tells us in proverbs to get knowledge and in the getting of knowledge get wisdom. When we know ourselves we will act wisely.
Do you know if you are a disciplined person or a lazy person? can truth reside in your heart?
Another proverb tells us to 'buy truth and do not sell it.'
A lot of what is said is said emotionally, we become stirred by a passionate person and rally to the cause but our decision comes from shallow soil and will die before dawn.
In the above scripture, if we look back we see Christ talking to His disciples about the cross, He shares communion with them. He is the hero laying down His life for all. Heroes exude charisma and charisma is attractive, but that does not mean we are them or will do what they do.
What is God doing inside of me, what has He planted inside, that is what I must live out of. What is He saying?
Jesus told the disciples that the Father was the one striking the shepherd and scattering the sheep, who could stand against Him?
Knowing the more saves us. Emotion knows the little, often, and is quick to speak.
Being told you would run away must have been hard, especially when you loved the one saying it. Up to this point satan had not had a look in, now evil was going to prosper, for a purpose. The disciples had not encountered this before, but Jesus knew His enemy and knew His destiny.
The disciples were about to have a hard lesson, become very disappointed and disillusioned but Jesus had a plan. He said in verse 32, "But after I have been resurrected I will go ahead of you to Galilee."
You might of just discovered that you were less than you thought, you may have failed someone close. You must know that God has a plan. This is not the end of the road, Jesus knows where that is and it is not failure but ressurection.
Like the disciples take time to find your faith and trust again! Amen!
