And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called Golgotha, where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the centre. Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. John 19:17-18
The title was Pilate's ironical way of paying the Jews back for cornering him into crucifying an innocent man. However, it represented the truth.
Jesus had told Pilate: "you would have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above."
The Jews did not like the title but Pilate said, "what I have written, I have written."
The final word was truth even through an ungodly man. So Pilate had, unwittingly come to truth, even though he had said to Jesus, "what is truth" (18:38)
In all that I experience and endure I can trust my Lord to have the last word. He alone is God and as I allow Him to be God and not strive to bring to pass what I believe is right in my own timing, all works out for good. (Romans 8:28). Amen!
