the story of pain

Image
11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Hebrews 12:11 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/heb.12.11.NLT I wanted to take a hike up one of our mountains with friends not so long back. Pain was involved. However this photos says it all. We had arrived. If we want to proceed, pain is required. I had not hiked in a while, uphill, to such a distance. It was warm and hard going. The walking I do nowadays  in reasonably light in comparison. Any level of fitness requires effort and effort causes pain. I had only just returned to swimming when I broke my ribs. An enforced break,  but I can feel the need to swim coming fast. As my state is going back into COVID restrictions I trust they are none too severe around pools. On the other side of pain is growth. We become stronger in ourselves as we submit to the pain. Go with the flow! Amen!

11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Hebrews 12:11 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/heb.12.11.NLT  Learning to sit is a part of dog training, as is 'stay' and 'drop'. I cannot say Oscar is proficient in this, however he is learning. Treats are used in this exercise. One thing my God has over me, is consistency. He also does not use treats all the time. Initially yes. In learning to trust and obey, our prayers are answered quickly at first and then the lag begins. I suppose this is the same for the dog. Treats are used initially to train a habit then removed. To have a well behaved dog would be a delight. I am not there yet. However, I see them in action and am impressed. Do you think God is keen to show off His well behaved children? I think so! All creation waits longingly for the revealing of the sons of God. So...heel!

seasons of refreshing

Image
19 Therefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped out, that seasons of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, Acts 3:19 HCSB https://bible.com/bible/72/act.3.19.HCSB The prodigal son needed to repent of his own way and return to his father  asking for forgiveness. To his surprise he received refreshing. His father threw a celebration, gave him new clothes and welcomed him home. The son deserved banishment but the father had grace that filled the void and healed his brokenness. The son had repented and turned back to his father.  As the scripture shows, refreshing follows. How good is that! The picture above is me in a huge bowl after having soaked tired feet at a beautiful place called Chomrong on the Annapurna Base camp trail. Little did I know that this place would be a place of healing and refreshing to me on my retun trip. At the base camp I suffered altitude sickness. My guide pushed me all the way back to this place. It was here I refused to b...

stop and turn back

Image
19 And now you must repent and turn back to God so that your sins will be removed, and so that times of refreshing will stream from the Lord’s presence. Acts 3:19 TPT https://bible.com/bible/1849/act.3.19.TPT This verse is Peter's answer to a crowd of people who became convicted of their sin of crucifying Jesus with the use of worthless testimonies from a rent-a-crowd. Note that Peter says: repent and turn back. Repent means stop what you are doing, realising how wrong the path is. What did these people need to turn back to? They had rejected Jesus and gone down a road that rejected Him as the Son of God. That road would lead to eternal separation from the truth. They needed to come back and revisit the truth that Jesus was who He said He was. Today many will hear the gospel and reject it and go down the road of eternal separation from Him. The message remains the same. Repent of your way, stop going down this road and surrender to the truth,  Jesus is the way, the truth and the li...

a new heaven and earth

4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes and eliminate death entirely. No one will mourn or weep any longer. The pain of wounds will no longer exist, for the old order has ceased.” Revelation 21:4 TPT https://bible.com/bible/1849/rev.21.4.TPT On the news tonight we heard that a young 17 year old local girl died in a car accident. She would have just received her licence.  I have a granddaughter who now has her learner's permit. This young girl went into eternity today. Where did she go? Did she go to a heavenly home? Will she experience the glory of the new heaven and earth or will she be banished to the firery flames of hell? Daily I pray for those facing eternity. I pray she was one of those who heard the good news and accepted Christ. I will not know until I myself arrive. I pray I see her there. Death is certain. Eternity has two portals: heaven and hell. It is not by good works that we escape hell. It is by accepting the work that Jesus did for us. He is the door. Amen! ...

the promise

4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelation 21:4 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/rev.21.4.NLT This verse follows:  3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. This verse rings true for what we have as Christians,  but perhaps, fail to recognise, God is with us. We have Him dwelling within our spirits. Each of us has His Spirit within. This is a downpayment of the above promise. Chapter 21 of Revelation is talking about the new heaven and new earth. In verse 5 God, the One seated on the throne, says: 3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. 6 And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beg...

in His image

3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— 4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Psalms 8:3‭-‬4 NLT https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.8.3-4.NLT I remember the day that I went to the Lord concerned that I had never done anything creative and He showed me how He had said: "let us make man in our own image and likeness"! The lights went on and instantly I knew that His creative genes were mine. I stepped out in faith and began my journey of art. To date I paint, sew, have made a stained glass window, I am now doing mosaic, I garden, I cook and tried pottery and many more crafts. Whilst I love my study, I also love my creative side.  Today I was again repairing footpaths. Initially I was so scared but am gaining confidence. My greatest dilemma is the uneven nature of the spaces I work in and the small sizes of tiles. Glueing small tiles is awkwa...
