Perspective
Did not He who made the outside of the cup make the inside also? But dedicate your inner self and give as donations to the poor of those things which are within Luke 11:40b-41
We are so keen to be seen as we imagine ourselves to be that we will go to great lengths to act that way when in fact that is not really us. Quite stressful really!
In the scripture above the Lord has been berating the Pharisees for their obsession with the outward show, while missing the need to face the inward heart.
What is really going on in our hearts? do we really care or are we performing according to a herd mentality or perhaps to a script?
Jesus says above that it is much more important to get it right in the heart and then do good because our heart really wants to, and for no other reason.
I so much more enjoy a clean heart and acting from that heart. I know I have to care for my heart because it can get messed up at times. The book of proverbs warns us to guard our heart for from it comes the issues of life. If it is in a messy state it does not want to love, so then love is forced and fake, better to keep it clean and be able to allow the love of God to flow through it. A lot more restful! Amen!
