The Lazy Dog

Matthew 26:41 (MSG) Stay alert; be in prayer so you don't wander into temptation without even knowing you're in danger. There is a part of you that is eager, ready for anything in God. But there's another part that's as lazy as an old dog sleeping by the fire."
I see this lazy dog, this is the part of me that doesn't want to get up when it is cold and go for a run or a ride on my bike.
My constant battle is against the lazy dog. In all my appetites I have to choose the higher way. No, I will not go there, no I will not do that.
On Saturday night, when I was fishing for souls I had to be sure that there was no part of me that was wayward, duplicitous, wanting it's fleshly way.
I cannot allow any part of me to have a strong case for fulfillment outside of my God's provision.
My enemy waits, lurking with his traps set, wanting to take me away. I cannot deceive myself with lies, 'oh I will only just stay talking until 2am', in a place that is unsafe, with people without standards, I cannot become like them or I will lose my saltiness.
I must really know myself. why am I doing what I am doing? what is my motive? Sin lurks, it deceives.
I cannot allow sin to live in my appetites, my God is my provider, He is my all sufficiency.
Jesus was facing His darkest hour while those that were with him were succumbing to the 'lazy dog'.
Jesus prayed, 'not my will but Your will be done'. He didn't want the cup that was being handed to Him, yet He was willing to drink it for our sake, He defeated the 'lazy dog'.
My God make me aware, even more so, of the 'lazy dog' may I see him for all he is and send him packing. amen!
