Leaders

Numbers 13:1-2 (MSG) God spoke to Moses: "Send men to scout out the country of Canaan that I am giving to the People of Israel. Send one man from each ancestral tribe, each one a tried-and-true leader in the tribe."
God told Moses to select tried and true leaders. Perhaps these were they that helped Moses rule the people, this was a test for them.
After 40 days they returned with a report. 10 of the 12 gave an evil report, there was no faith in them. 10 inflamed the people against Moses, inciting them to find a new leader. I wonder who began the mumbling? who thought more highly of themselves than they should?
God's anger burned against them and they died of the plague. They had an effect on the people, their hardness of heart and unwillingness to follow the Lord as GOD showed when the people decided to go into the promised land after God had said 'No'.
Leaders have an effect on the people they lead. Their heart attitude will infect the people, especially if it is corrupt. If a leader has a good heart then his attitude and behaviour hold the people in check. It is funny how goodness does not infect like sin.
I am constantly aware that my behaviour is being watched. If I am slack then those behind me will be slack. If I stand firm then those behind me feel the check.
Praise God His grace is my strength, His grace is my shield and buckler. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
