An excellent spirit
How easily others will turn against even an excellent leader and want to stone them. When in pain the minions look for someone to blame and the leader gets it in the head because they are standing up front.
David did not withdraw from the people, instead he inquired of the Lord about what he should do. The Lord said 'go get back what has been taken from you.'
David led his men to find all that had been taken, their wives, children and stock.
When 200 could go no further he let them stay behind and when he had rescued the lost families and property he returned to them.
Those with begrudging hearts wanted to treat the weak, who had stayed behind, with disdain but David said that they were still a part of the team and gave them a share of the loot.
Those who follow will not always understand or be able to keep the pace, yet grace, that which David portrayed, lifts up and restores.
Grace enabled David to forgive those who wanted to stone him and treat him with disdain. Grace enabled him to rise up and be a great leader. Grace then crowned him as king.
Grace will lead me on, grace will empower me, grace will crown me. Praise God for a more excellent way. Amen!
