High Places

2 Kings 15:34-35 (AMP) He did right in the Lord’s sight, according to all his father Uzziah had done. Yet the high places were not removed; the people sacrificed and burned incense still on the high places.
The sign of a really good leader is that they recognise how important the heart of God is in a matter. Even if a prophet does not come and say 'you should do such and such', they hold the Lord's heart close to theirs and want what He wants.
There were many good kings in Judah but they failed to remove the 'high places'.
The high places were not what God wanted. These were places where the people worshipped in a way not ordained by God.
As parents, as teachers, leaders in any way it is important that we recognise the heart of the Lord first. What would he say about a matter. We cannot let things slide, allow slack motives, wrong interpretations of God's grace.
In DivorceCare this past week we were looking at what the bible says about divorce and remarriage. Some found it too restrictive, too black and white. I said to the persons involved 'you must have a place of truth in your life, you cannot be that point of truth because you will change it according to what you want. The word of God is unchangeable.'
My answer was not very popular but I cannot let anything but the word of God be my source of truth because it does not change, I do. I am fickle and flesh, it is spirit and life.
However, I know I am safe with God's word. My world is sliding into a pit of sin. Already adultery is ok by many, same sex marriages are coming fast, our society is losing it's way, we need the word of God now more than ever.
Thanks you Jesus that You did not question the validity of the word of the Father. Amen!
