Understanding

Nehemiah 10:28 (AMP) And the rest of the people—the priests, Levites, gatekeepers, singers, Nethinim [temple servants], and all they who had separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, their daughters, all who had knowledge and understanding—
Under Nehemiah and the priest Ezra the people had been taught the word of God and brought back to it. The people had to let go of foreign wives (and I suppose husbands) and purify themselves as a holy nation.
The Part of the above scripture that stands out is 'all who had knowledge and understanding'. I can have knowledge but not understanding. Knowledge without understanding does me no good and I will continue to walk in my own ways.
As a Christian, as I have understanding, I want to walk differently. As the word of God is revealed to me I desire to walk in it. I take down my foreign gods of worldly attitudes to getting, giving, attitude, conflict, pride, health, etc
Us Westerners do not realise how bound we are to stuff, laziness and selfishness. It takes a revelation of God to realise and then move away from these strongholds.
As we walk as if God is our everything we discover a whole new way of living and doing.
May understanding be my portion today as I hear the word of God. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
