Who Knows Life?
There is no one like our God. There are many good men and women but at the end of the day they are not God and cannot do what He does.
My God, You alone are God. It was you who created all we see, breathe and feel. It was You who created me, so you really know me. Who knows me better? Who else can fix my broken bits but You?
Everyone, no matter how good they are, even if they walk closely to their God, will one day fail because they are not God. He is the only one who can absolutely keep His word.
We become bitterly disappointed when we lock into a leader and they fail us by not walking in integrity, awareness, compassion. If we have our eyes on them instead of God we will become disappointed, bitter, angry.
In the book I am reading called 'The Partnership', the story about our past prime minister John Howard and past president George Bush, there were times when John Howard did not get it as a leader and ultimately either said the wrong thing or more importantly failed to say the right thing, when it came to supporting our allies. What got in the way? Political Pride.
Being able to really know ourselves and our own failures and being able to apologise when they kick in, is important. Both Alexander Downer, our then Foreign Minister, and John Howard were smitten with the same disorder, an inability to apologise for a mistake. Yet in many other areas they were great leaders.
John Howard played an important role and will be remembered in history. He knew how to relate to the troops, He knew how to build a relationship with the most powerful nation on earth but he did not understand the importance of 'sorry'. We can lose face but gain face in an apology.
We have to remember not to become too enamoured with ourselves when we manage to be Godly for a period of time and think, erroneously, 'why I have made it, I am holy'. Pfft! We really need to be able to laugh at our own arrogance.
