Being Wise
Ecclesiastes 8:1 (MSG) There's nothing better than being wise, Knowing how to interpret the meaning of life. Wisdom puts light in the eyes, And gives gentleness to words and manners.
While wisdom is very good I think even better is having a blossoming relationship with the one who gives wisdom.
Solomon oscillates between being wise and sprouting verbal garbage. Possibly the reason for this is he gave himself totally to pleasure of all that is natural and unlike his father David he did not know the Lord.
Solomon's wisdom was natural, lacking relationship. He had many wives yet I don't see him mention friends. Physical beauty is only good as long as it lasts. Sexual pleasure lasts for a time but all natural pleasure birthed in good relationship is way better.
The wisest thing I can do is love the Lord and know Him as He is, not how I interpret Him. I can sit and talk all day about God but talking to Him is so much better.
Jesus said to the rich young ruler 'one thing you lack, go ans sell all you have and come and follow me.' While we live out of anything, absolutely anything other than a relationship with the Lord we lack.
