Love in Action

3 John 1:5 (MSG) Dear friend, when you extend hospitality to Christian brothers and sisters, even when they are strangers, you make the faith visible.

I love having visitors 99% of the time. There are times when I am exhausted and just want peace and quiet and yet there is a need.

A few weekends ago I had such a situation. There was a young father, who had previously attended a divorcecare course and was now working in Canberra. He had returned to see his children and after church had nowhere to go.

I already had my grandson with me but also invited this man along and another man who helps me with the group. I have a small house and already have two boarders. I don't have extra living rooms and my lounge room is small.

As the weather was good the children played outside for most of the time, the boarders stayed in their rooms, most of the time, and that left the two men to talk while I prepared food.

The man and his children were grateful because before church that day they had a falling out with relatives and were hurting. The man was also hurting because of his wife's infidelity and lies.

So often at church we will know people need companionship and love but we think of our own tiredness and let them go, why we are not responsible for their lives are we?

I have lived in a big city and been terribly alone and no one from my church reached out. When I came to Wodonga it was the same. I have chosen to be the one who invites.

If you have brothers and sisters who need you, be there, get up and love because this is what we are made for, love.
