New Wine Skins

And God who knows the heart, testified to them by giving the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us. He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. Now then, why are you testing God by putting a yoke on the disciples necks that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear? On the contrary , we believe we are saved through grace of the Lord Jesus in the same way they are. Acts 15:8-11

It is so easy to put a yoke on someone else. The first disciples thought salvation was for the Jews but had to learn it was for all men and women. This would smack at their pride and while they had to deal with this truth they then had to deal with the fact that this new crowd didn't even have to sacrifice like they did, getting circumcised.

Last Sunday I watched a church be given by my now former pastor to a 35 year old man. There will be a lot of dealing with attitude as this young man changes things and oh I pray he does. This young man has not done the years that the former pastor has done nor, perhaps has he made the same level of sacrifice but God chose Him.

He will bring in a youthful way of looking at things, he will have an openness that perhaps was not there and according to the grace upon him will do things that may not make sense to start with but who cares if God is in this it will be good. I can only pray he will be brave enough to make the changes. I long for the new.

God is like this. He brings change, new life, new wine, new wine skins. Yes!

Embrace the new, let our God be new and fresh in your life. Amen!

Little Things Grow

The boy's mother said to Elisha, "as The Lord lives and you yourself live, I will not leave you. So he got up and followed her. 2 Kings 4:30 The Shunamite woman had travelled to Mt Carmel to find Elisha after the death of her son. Although Elisha had sent his servant Gehazi to the boy with his staff the woman had come to find Elisha and was not leaving without him. I like this lady's spirit. I am sure The Lord God Almighty also valued her heart. She had a heart for God and made room for Him in her world. Now, having lost her son she knew what to do: find Elisha and not let him go until he came to restore her son. What made the Shunamite woman believe that Elisha could raise her son? Was it the same faith that made her provide him a place to stay in her home? I believe it was God working in her life. I am grateful for her faith, I can read and be encouraged.
