Saviour
'In Bethlehem of Judea', they told him (Herod) 'because this is what was written by the prophet:
And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah:
because out of you will come a leader who will shepherd My people Israel. Matthew 2:5,6
When the wise men talked to Herod about the new King being born Herod collected the chief priests and scribes and asked them where the Messiah would be born. He did this so he could kill the baby.
It is interesting that although the chief priests and scribes had been waiting for the promised Messiah none of them went to visit him. It makes you wonder how they valued the 'Messiah' in the first place. Had they just relegated him to fiction status? Knowledge of the scripture alone did not change them or save them. They needed to meet the saviour and partake of the new era He would bring.
Bethlehem was not a significant place except for the line of King David came from there and as Jesus was from that line He was born there. it is interesting how God puts the pieces together.
Jesus was born into a time such as what Moses faced. A wild ruler was killing babies who threatened his reign.
Jesus was a deliverer sent to set captives free. Moses was a type of what was to come. Jesus came to set captives free by offering the perfect sacrifice, Himself.
It is important that we see Jesus as He is, a deliverer, saviour and God. He was not just a good man, a nice man or a good teacher. He came that we might have life abundant not same old same old.
We cannot afford to be so caught up with a form of religion that misses the relationship and grace that Christ brings. I experienced the form of religion for 19 years and it crippled me spiritually. When I found Jesus as saviour through inviting Him in to my life I began to live.
It is He who makes all things new, not us. We are not God, He is and He is good, very, very good. Amen!
