"Follow Me!"

As Jesus went out from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office, and He said to him, "follow Me!" So he got up and followed him. Matthew 9:9

Have you ever wondered what was going on in Matthew's life? He may have been so over doing a job that caused his fellow countrymen to hate him.

Having seen Jesus in action his heart could have been stirred, an awareness of his sin and a dislike for all that he was. Perhaps he was thinking 'if Jesus asks me to follow him I will.' Perhaps his prayers were 'God set me free!'

The change took all of one verse in the bible, it would have taken much time as God worked behind the scenes to bring Matthew to the place of surrender.

As I read the book of Matthew I see a man who understood the deity of Christ, he understood the simplicity of the gospel and he recognised the power to deliver. He has set the gospel out in lesson format, each story holds a truth.

Matthew was probably a good money manager, he knew his maths and had a clear mind. I am grateful Jesus chose him.

We see Jesus choose those that are as diverse as east and west but they hold a common thread, they believed, they were hungry for truth.

Today is no different Jesus is moving and is touching lives form the highly educated to the lowly drunk. He alone knows what is hidden away in the heart and what can be accomplished by faith. Amen!
