Great Faith

Then Jesus replied to her, "Woman, your faith is great. Let it be done for you as you want". And from that moment her daughter was cured. Matthew 15:28

Yesterday I looked at the first part of this scripture and how Jesus at first refused this Canannite woman saying that healing was only for the 'lost sheep of the house of Israel'.

His refusal served only to heighten this woman's faith. To receive anything from God there has to be faith.

Have we learned to live without faith? Do we not come to the Lord anymore with our requests? How much do we allow our enemy to beat us around the head with infirmities in ourselves and our children? Do we instead go to doctors to medicate?

Yesterday I was talking to a woman who has a friend who has a son who is severely troubled in his mind. It is assumed that his troubles arose out of abuse. He has severe behavioural issues and he troubles his family with outrageous behaviour. He is medicated so as to maintain some level of control.

I have a grandson who has behavioural issues and he is not medicated but my son and his wife are trying everything they know in diet to help their son. It is almost as if a hot iron has seared a part of his mind.

The woman is the gospel said to Jesus 'my daughter is cruelly tormented by a demon.' Jesus did not dispute her claim but the woman received her miracle and her daughter was cured.

In a society that does not have medicine or technology a miracle is the only answer, it was the best answer and would be the best answer for the two boys I have mentioned and I am sure both parents would welcome a miracle.

Not having access to doctors, medicines and the like can be good because then we are forced to say 'Jesus you are the only answer.' When we go to Him is desperation and seek Him then we find Him. I remember being very ill in Bali and knowing that Jesus was the only answer and He came through for me, I was healed. Accepting Him as the only answer and not fearing that the illness is greater than our faith is important. My first battle was with fear, as I focused on Him I received.

Jesus is the answer! Coming to a place where we can find Him is the challenge. The woman in the story above sought Jesus, followed Him in persistence, unashamedly. To say to those who are struggling 'Just believe' or 'just pray' can be harsh and simplistic because I do not walk in their shoes. Yet Jesus is still the answer! Amen!

What did the woman go through to find 'great faith'?
